Working in a team with another UX researcher, I conducted a hardware usability study for Clover, a Point-of-Sale manufacturer, to understand how users interacted with their newest POS model.
Research Goals
Clover manufactures fully customizable Point-of-Sale systems that are designed to engage with customers. These systems have a customer-facing screen and payment solution. Clover wanted to understand if their newest model was easy to use with minimal assistance and if it met the needs of every user, regardless of age, background or disability.
Methodology
We recruited 24 participants for the in person usability study. As Clover was very focused on inclusive design, we recruited participants with cognitive, physical and visual disabilities. We designed a set of questions and tasks, in collaboration with the design team at Clover, that probed users around their present shopping habits as well as their expectations. Participants were encouraged to verbalize any interesting points that came to mind as they completed their assigned tasks.
