Redesigning Meta’s checkout platform

Meta’s family of apps, including Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp and Messenger, have over 37 different checkout use cases that are supported by one checkout platform. For this project, we aimed to redesign this platform to a best-in-class checkout that better serves our 1+ billion users. I initiated this project with the help of our UX researcher when we learned how poorly our conversion rate compared to industry benchmarks. As the design lead, my scope was the full UX redesign of the checkout experience, including new information architecture, navigation patterns and optimizations for web, android and iOS starting with Facebook and Instagram using modified versions of their design systems.

Our goal for this project was a 2-3% conversion lift and we considerably surpassed this, reaching +24% conversion lift (average across surfaces and use cases).
